It was revealed on April 20th that a 6 billion yen (~$73 million) bid had been made on X JAPAN member YOSHIKI’s prized crystal piano. The star donated the piano to an online charity auction held by Yahoo! Japan.
The auction began on the 17th at one yen, and after hitting 100 million yen on the 19th, the bids suddenly skyrocketed, and by the 20th, 898 bids had been made. Due to the item’s extremely high price tag, Yahoo! temporarily suspended the auction. They are currently confirming the bidders’ credibility in order to weed out any fakes.
The auction is scheduled to end on the night of April 24th with 100% of the money earned going to the Japanese Red Cross to support earthquake and tsunami disaster relief efforts.
