Anisong singer May’n, who is currently taking a break from singing for the popular anime Macross Frontier, appeared on stage for the opening day of her 3D documentary “May’n THE MOVIE -Phonic Nation- 3D” on February 5th.
Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro was wall-to-wall with fans waiting to catch a glimpse of May’n, who was warmly welcomed when she finally arrived.
“I’m really happy that this day has come,” the singer said during a short speech about her movie. Her manager also pitched in, “Including making all the arrangements, it took about three months to get this footage of May’n-chan. You can feel as if you’re at the live event.”
The song “Phonic Nation” was also confirmed as the theme song to the upcoming movie “Macross F ~Sayonara no Tsubasa~” during the event. May’n herself wrote the melody and the lyrics to the tune, and performed it for the first time at the final stop of her tour. The song will be included on her second album “If you…”, which will be released on February 23rd.
“I thought of keeping (Phonic Nation) unknown, but I felt that the people at the live performance really loved it… so I decided to put the song in (the movie),” May’n said of including “Phonic Nation” in her documentary. “It’s a song that I crammed full of my love for music. I think that even as you’re watching the movie, you’ll be smiling. It was such a warm live.” The song is described as a middle-tempo pop tune that is familiar to the ears, and even had the audience singing “la la la” with the singer towards the end of the song during performance.
The documentary uses the latest technology, “U23D,” to render May’n’s nationwide tour in stunning 3D. The documentary is now being shown in theaters across Japan.
