Actress Fukatsu Eri (37) successfully bagged the Best Actress award at the 34th Montreal World Film Festival for her role in Sang-il Lee’s, “Akunin”.
Fukatsu Eri is the second Japanese actress to win the said award because in 1983, Tanaka Yuko (55) was also awarded the Best Actress award for her role in “Amagigoe”.
Furthermore, a number of other Japanese stars have won other awards in the said awarding event. In 2008, Takita Yojiro’s “Okuribito” won the Grand prix des Americas and in 2009, Negishi Kichitaro won the Best Director award for his movie “Viyon no Tsuma”.
Akunin will open in Japanese theaters on September 11 and already had its Canadian premiere last September 5th. Watch the trailer after the jump.
