As many of you already know, Arashi will be one of the hosts for this year’s “Kohaku Uta Gassen“, which will be broadcasted live on New Year’s Eve from 7:00 PM- 11:45 PM. But that’s not the only event the night has in store for Japan’s most popular male group – Arashi is also confirmed to be attending the “Johnny’s Countdown 2010-2011“, which will also be partially broadcasted live on Fuji Television.
“Johnny’s Countdown” is an annual countdown live held at the Tokyo Dome which features appearances from the many talents of Johnny’s Entertainment. As members of JE, Arashi has attended the event every year. In 2009, Arashi attended “Kohaku” for the first time, but were unable to stick around for the entire ceremony as they had to rush to the countdown live immediately after they concluded their performance.
As Arashi has confirmed their appearance again this year for both “Kohaku” and “Johnny’s Countdown”, they’ve decided that they’ll participate on “Johnny’s Countdown” via a relay broadcast.
Since the countdown broadcast starts at 11:45PM, the boys have worked out a cooperative agreement with NHK; as hosts of “Kohaku” this year, Arashi will be unable to leave early to attend the countdown live. Knowing that their attendance is a tradition valued by both members and the fans, NHK has agreed to help the boys out by allowing them to relay broadcast from one of their studio or venue locations.

They’re the biggest girl group in Japan, and they’re gearing up to hijack NHK’s annual music show, “Kohaku Uta Gassen.”
Performance details from Kohaku’s rehearsal have revealed that AKB48 will appear not just once, but twelve times throughout the show.
The girl group will deliver a three-song medley titled, “Kohaku 2010 AKB48 Kamikyoku SP“, but they’re also engaged to be the back-up dancers for some veteran singers, such as Wada Akiko, Godai Natsuko, and Hosokawa Takashi.
Moreover, 16 members will be cooperating with Arashi’s Ohno Satoshi and Ninomiya Kazunari for a broadcast relay from backstage.
With 16 research students in addition to members from SKE48 and NMB48, a total of 130 girls will be seen on Kohaku’s stage.

NHK’s year-end show, “Kohaku Uta Gassen“, is almost here and the lineup for 2010 boasts a cast list of epic proportions, particularly for AKB48 member, Takahashi Minami.
“Rehearsal for us was like a scene from a disaster area“, grinned Takahashi. “The combined number of members, including cameos from SKE48 and NMB48, exceeded the total of 100!” This year, the AKB48 family has grown tremendously in size with the additions of the groups, SKE48 and NMB48.
AKB48 first performed on “Kohaku” back in 2007, though their fame hadn’t quite kicked off yet. The girls performed “Aitakatta“, but unfortunately, they received more attention on their parts as back-up dancers for Enka legend, Godai Natsuko.
“It was an honor to dance behind Godai Natsuko-san as she sang, but at the same time, we didn’t really get a chance to be seen, which was kind of regretful. We owe many thanks to everyone for cheering us on, and for allowing us to come back on stage. We’re going to do our best to show everyone a cool AKB48 this year.”
“Kohaku Uta Gassen” will air via live TV on December 31st from 7:30PM to 11:45PM.
Perfume showed up at the rehearsal for “Kohaku Uta Gasen” which was held on December 29th, and at the press conference, member A-chan (Nishiwaki Ayaka) confessed about the dream she had last night to the media.
A-chan said, “I had a dream about Matsujun-san last night.” She said Arashi member, Matsumoto Jun and her went to a cell phone store together in Hiroshima where Perfume’s home town is. It sounds like they were a couple in her dream, but A-chan said that she was more like his assistant. She also said she told Matsumoto Jun about the dream and that he had a good laugh about it.
On December 28th, Poplar Publishing announced that Mizushima Hiro’s debut novel, “KAGEROU“, had reached a circulation figure of 1 million! Published under Mizushima’s real name, Saito Tomohiro, it took the book only two weeks to reach that astonishing figure, since the book was officially released on the 15th.
The hype is due in part to Mizushima winning the prestigious “Poplar Publishing Grand Prize for Fiction” award back in October. The combination of his fame and the author’s receivership of the award generated an interest so high that when the book was released, the publishers decided to print 430,000 copies – an astounding figure that’s incredibly rare for a new writer’s debut novel.
Considering the amount sold, how much has Mizushima earned from “KAGEROU”?
Since each book costs ¥1,400 (approximately $17 USD), and it’s already achieved a gross sales mark of ¥1,400,000,000, Mizushima will have earned¥140,000,000 ($1,700,174 USD) with his 10% writer’s royalty fees.
Actress Sawajiri Erika (24) and her husband, “Hyper-creator” Takashiro Tsuyoshi (46), seemed to have rekindled their romance, despite signs that the couple was nearing a divorce. On December 28th, it was revealed that the couple was living together in Barcelona, Spain.
Reporters confirmed through TV program, “Jouhou Live – Miyane-ya“, that they had seen Sawajiri at her apartment in Barcelona before and after Christmas. They also caught Takashiro when he tried to leave the apartment. He remained silent when questioned about reconciliation, but on the following day he smiled and assured that “She most certainly won’t come out today.” The statement heavily implies that the two are indeed living together.
Rumors about their divorce came up in April. During an interview in August, Sawajiri called Takashiro her “former husband“, while describing her marriage life as “like a nightmare“. Beginning in autumn however, it seems as if they’ve managed to reconcile with one another and move on with their marriage.
On December 26th, NHK announced the set list for their upcoming annual music show, “Kohaku Uta Gassen“, which will be broadcasted live on New Year’s Eve.

Today South Korean boy band “SHINee” held their first concert in Japan at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo and have announced that they are going to make their official Japanese debut under “EMI Music Japan” in March 2011.
In 2008 they were awarded Rookie of the Year in South Korea. Since then their popularity has kept on growing and now they are going to follow their fellow idol groups to Japan to expand their fandom even further.
Even before their debut they are already a big number in Japan. Within one month more than 100,000 people applied for a ticket for their performance today. In the end, 24,000 lucky people were able to see the five members of SHINee today. They performed two shows, which adds up to about 5 hours and 60 songs. There is no doubt that this must have pleased their Japanese fans.
Member Jonghyun still wasn’t able to fully perform with the others due to an injury on his left foot. “I’m sad that I can’t perform as much as I want, but at least I’m able to stay on stage with the others,” he said in tears.

The girls will learn how to text the guy after the party, how to hold a microphone during Karaoke, which songs one should sing at Karaoke, and many more!
As supporters, Matsushima Naomi (of ‘Othello’), and Yuki Maomi will make their appearances.
Singer Angela Aki has been making waves in the Japanese music industry for five years now, and she’s decided to celebrate the occasion by embarking on a six-day tour, titled “HOME SWEET HOME ‘5 YEARS’ ~Best Hit & All Request~“.
Aki debuted back in March of 2005 with the indie release of her mini-album, “One“; she also released her first major single, “HOME“, in September of that year as well. Since 2005, she’s compiled a formidable collection of hits, with “Tegami” being the most recent and biggest success to date.

Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves. AKB48 members, Fujie Reina and Chikano Rina, attended the opening event for “Cafe de Luna Park” on December 25th at Tsuutenkaku, Osaka.
Since the launch was held on Christmas Day, both girls appeared in Santa costumes in order to promote the new menu item, “Tomato Parfait”. The parfait boasts the addition of a mini-tomato, dried tomatoes, and tomato sauce on a regular parfait.
“Cafe de Luna Park” was created by Mother Farm, which features both Fujie and Chikano as its image models.
The ladies of KARA have been busy flying back and forth between Korea and Japan in order to perform for multiple year-end music festivals. In the midst of all that madness, they’ve also been filming scenes for their upcoming drama, “URAKARA“.

Arashi’s popular variety show, “Himitsu no Arashi-chan“, welcomed child actress Ashida Mana to one of the corners. Ashida was featured in the “VIP ROOM” segment, and consequently, this week’s episode was titled, ” Arashi makes Mana-chan’s dreams come true special”!
When questioned about what her dreams were, Mana cutely responded:
- “I wanna eat delicious pickled cucumber!” - “I wanna sing ‘Lilupuri’ song!!” (“Lilupuri” is a popular anime amongst little girls) - “I wanna be good at riding a unicycle!”

AKB48’s sub-unit, French Kiss, have previously announced that they would be releasing their second single, “If” for January 19th. Recently, the PV preview for “If” was introduced through Mezamashi TV.
It appears that there’s two different sets for the PV. In one, members Kuramochi Asuka, Kashiwagi Yuki, and Takajo Aki are dancing in chic winter outfits. In the other, it seems like they’re suffering some kind of conflict in their friendship.
Check out the PV below! (For additional details on the single, go back to our previous post here.)
February 2011 will mark aiko’s 13th anniversary since her debut, but during her career, the singer has never released a ‘BEST‘ album. However, on February 23rd, aiko’s first ‘BEST’ album will finally be revealed, though no title has yet been announced.
The singer has appeared on “Kohaku Uta Gassen” 8 times already, this year being her 9th, but not once has she ever released a best album since her debut in 1998.
Usually artists will release a best album within a 2-3 year span of their career start, but aiko’s never done that. She’s constantly releasing something new, so this time she decided that it’s time to put all of her works in one album.
Her debut single, “Asita“, in July 1998, and her 3rd single, “Hanabi,” in 1999, both made it onto Oricon’s top 10. Other singles such as “KABUTOMUSHI“, “Boyfriend“, and “Modorenai Asita” were all hits and took the first two slots on the Oricon charts in 2000.
Her ninth album, “BABY“, that was released earlier in March, took the #1 spot as well, and she had her first two day arena tours at Yoyogi National Gymnasium and Osaka-Jo Hall in front of 30,000 fans.
The singer/songwriter has released 156 songs throughout her entire career, and she is re-mastering and re-recording all the selected songs for the ‘Best’ album, but which ones will make it?
After having to pull out of Shoujo Jidai’s ”Hoot” promotions last month due to a knee injury, member Tiffany is finally back with her girls!
Tiffany made her comeback appearance through the December 23rd episode of “Mezamashi TV“. Joining the girls on the station’s rooftop, she delivered a strong performance of “Gee” and demonstrated that she’s back in tip-top shape.
After the performance, the group went down for a short interview session with the program’s hosts.
Having heard of her injury, the hosts asked after Tiffany’s health. Fans were charmed when she replied in Japanese, “I’m ok now. Because of the strong support from everyone, I was able to return quickly. Thank you very much! While I was taking a break, I was studying Japanese and singing. It was also a good time to review myself. I will work cheerfully now, so please continue to support us!”
We’re glad to see Tiffany doing well. Check out the performances and interview segments down below!

She is co-staring with Yasuda Kei and Kusumi Koharu, who also used to be in Morning Musume, and she said about the duo, “I was encouraged by them, but at the same time, I felt that I needed to play steadily as their senior.”
The stage performance “Abe Naikaku” will be open until December 27th.

The role that bequeathed the award was “Death (Der Tod)” from the musical “Elisabeth“, which was performed from August 9th~October 30th at the Imperial Garden Theater.
Shirota commented at the press conference, “I was just informed yesterday, so I’m very moved to receive this esteemed award, but at the same time, very surprised as I still can’t believe it!”
The annual “ACA Arts Festival” was first launched in 1948, and was organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs (a special body of the Japanese Ministry of Education) to encourage artistic creativity and advancement of the arts.

The “Best Character Award” is a newly-established special award at this year’s “Kodansha Advertising Awards“, and its purpose is to make a honorable recognition of the person who was most loved by the readers during the year and who contributed to the progress of magazine advertising.
Kuraki was chosen because she spread the ideals of feminine beauty to the readers as an image model for KOSE’s cosmetic line, “Esprique Precious“. Kuraki commented, “I’m not sure if I’m good enough to be chosen, but I’m very honored.”
Pop singer MiCHi has just released her new single E.P. “LOVE is.” today in Japan, and it is also her third single of 2010. Her previous two singles, “All About the Girls (Iijanka Party People/Together Again” and “Wonder Woman“, were released in April and June of this year.
This will be MiCHi’s seventh single since going major in 2008 and signing to Sony Music. The single has four songs including a cover of The Offspring’s “PRETTY FLY (FOR A WHITE GUY)“, and each song happens to be used as a theme song.
If you like dance pop music, then you’ll like this single. The title track, “LOVE is.”, reminds of an early nineties song that belongs in “FLASHDANCE”. The second track, “YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!“, is your typical pop song with a catchy melody and something you’d sing in karaoke. ”JUMP ON IT” is an electro dance track that you’d find in a club somewhere in London. If you’re curious to her cover of The Offspring’s song, it’s not that bad. She does keep the rock aspect of the song, so just imagine that song performed by a female with a British accent.
Track List
1. LOVE is. 2. YEAH YEAH YEAH!!! 3. JUMP ON IT 4. PRETTY FLY (FOR A WHITE GUY)
